Student Officers join the team
At the end of 2016, we recruited a group of students to our new social media student officer scholarship scheme. They will be helping to create content from a student perspective and get lots of training along the way to help with their own career development.
Promoting the roles
To recruit the team we posted on all our channels, including a video with the top reasons to apply, and we received nearly 50 applications. We asked the applicants to complete a short written application and a ‘creative task’, which involved posting about UofG student life on either Snapchat or Twitter. The creative task really highlighted the stand-out students which helped us decide on a shortlist of 15 for group interviews.
The interviews were relatively informal (there were custard creams!) and included a group brainstorming session where we asked the students to come up with a social media campaign around exam tips. This allowed us to see which candidates worked well together. Among the questions we asked them was what would they change about our current social media output. It was great to have feedback from students and it showed us which candidates weren’t afraid to voice their opinions and ideas!
We originally planned to recruit five officers but the pool of talent was just too good and we ended up with eight amazing students. Read their bios on the 'Our Team' page.
The team are now officially on board and have started working on campaigns. Look out for their blog posts as they write about what they get up to. It is still early days for the scheme and we are hoping our founding officers will help shape the scholarship programme for future students.
